Recently, we were discussing the variety of styles in timber handrails and balustrades that have recently come to the forefront in design interiors and exteriors. With materials as diverse as steel, glass and stone currently in fashion, we asked the question; what makes wood such a consistent favourite, in spite of all the other choices available? In the end we concluded it was down to something more than personal taste and what best fitted the style of someone's home. Wood, it seems, provides a sense of warmth and comfort that none of the other choices can come close to. With this in mind, attention turned to our current stock.
Over here at Woodstock Timber we carry a large stock of handrail and balustrade timber. These include traditional Ladies Waist and Breadloaf style handrails, Bottom Rails and Balusters in both merbau and pre-primed pine. We also stock stunning solid balustrading, a popular design feature over the last few years, in merbau.
Merbau is a tropical wood, deep brown or red in appearance, with a coarse grain and a gold flecked effect when the light hits. An increasingly popular choice for both indoor staircases, and outdoor decking and verandahs, merbau gives a depth of warmth to any interior, and an imposing quality to outdoor verandahs and balustrading. Merbau also has a natural hardness that offers good resistance to knocks and scrapes and helps keep its look for many years - and with 2013 trends moving more towards organic, natural-looking wood with a tactile quality, it is an inspirational choice for handrails and balustrades as well as flooring.
Pre-primed pine on the other hand, provides serviceability and durability as well as a timeless look. Being pre-treated ensures it is one of the more versatile timber options available. Treated pine weathers well in any setting and here in Brisbane with the seasonal fluctuations it is an extremely intelligent choice for both indoor and outdoor features.
So have a look around you, and if you're considering upgrading or remodelling features of your home such as staircases, decking, or verandahs, you might want to think about the kind of look you'd ultimately like to achieve. Is it classic and timeless or contemporary and tactile? Then you might want to pay us a visit and have a look at our current timber handrails and baluster stock.
