For those of you that have decided to take up woodworking as a bit of a hobby, it can be difficult to know just where to start with regards to your first beginner projects. You should of course start with smaller and easier projects before gradually moving up to builds that are going to require increasing levels of skill. So just what sort of beginner projects are out there that you can start to concentrate on?
We have provided three great woodworking project ideas that should help you to hone your skills and create some useful items for your home. For clear instructions on exactly how to go about building each project, there will no doubt be a large selection of tutorials over at YouTube that will take you through the projects step by step.
Window Box
If you live in the city, window boxes can provide your home with that little bit of nature and the ability to do at least some form of gardening on a smaller scale. They are very easy to make and would require nothing more than some scrap wood and a selection of basic woodworking tools. The end result will be a handy window box that will allow you to plant some flowers or crops and keep your green fingers that little bit happier.
Birdhouse
Another great beginner project that is both simple and inexpensive to build, is that of a homemade birdhouse. Again, you would only need a little bit of lumber, either new or scrap and some basic tools such as a saw. You could even get the kids involved on this fun project that will result in a nice little home for any visiting birds to your property.
Storage Crates
Every home needs storage, so why not try building yourself some storage crates that will give you some additional storage for your many possessions. The reason why this is a great starting project is because looks are not overly important here, so if it does not quite look as good as you expected, you can just remind yourself that it is not something that is going to be in plain sight.
Each of the three projects above will require minimal woodworking skills, not much in the way of materials and tools and will let you take your first steps into a great new hobby that will eventually see you becoming more and more creative with your builds. Before you know it, you will be building tables, chairs and chests of drawers that will delight your both your family and your wallet.
